The model build will have the following 7 items:
1: It has a feat advancement list, showing what feats are taken at each level.
2: It has a short paragraph or two explaining what the build does, and why it chose what it did.
3: It is either a good build, or it is an interesting build. This should be explained in your paragraph. It would be helpful to make a forum post to see if others find it interesting. If others talk about it, that's a good sign.
4: It has items that the player should buy.
5: It shows what the build looks like at a handful of important levels, such as 1, 4, 8, 12, 16, and 20, or 5, 10, 15, and 20.
6: It is be well-written, and well organized.
7: It is built out to level 20.
Builds that meet all of the criteria get three stars! Builds that meet almost all of the criteria get 1 or two stars. Builds that only meet a few criteria, but I’ve put up anyway, get no stars.
I think you should start a multi-class section. One great multiclass rogue/fighter archer build to link to Lady MyGyver Hit&Miss at http://www.optibuilds.com/optimized-rogue-archer-build/
ReplyDeleteIn general I put multi-classed build in the class they have the most levels in. Builds that are split down the middle, I put in both. Added Lady McGyver Hit&Miss
DeleteThe Claw Synthesist Summoner is incorrect. The evolutions are way off. I did the calculations and you would need 47 evolutions to get everything listed on the build.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you are right. They probably didn't calculate the ability score increases correctly? I'll mark it as an illegal build. Feel free to e-mail the people over at Elder Wyrm.
DeleteWhy isn't the notorious AM BARBARIAN guide featured here?
ReplyDeleteIt's the most popular (on the internet) barbarian build on the internet, as well the most up to date. It covers all areas from items, rage powers, archetypes and (optional) mounted combat.
Clear and concise to boot !
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Ump_KFzNoD7x6aJ9ywGank5G9DzSVlef28bBbjuIq2U/edit?pli=1
Because that is a guide! This is the page for builds. You can find that guide, and many others, on the Comprehensive Guide to the Guides: http://zenithgames.blogspot.com/2012/11/the-comprehensive-pathfinder-guides.html
DeleteFor the Angry Caterpillar synthesist build, How would the character have access to Multi-Weapon fighting at 3rd level? Eidolon's arms don't count when determining what feats you qualify for IIRC...
ReplyDeleteassets gained from the eidolon count the same as assets you would gain from a strength belt. if it is a bonus you qualify for for more than (i believe) 24 hours, then you gain those benefits for the purpose of acquiring feats. when you no longer have those bonuses, the feat would be "greyed out" on your sheet. when you have it again, the feat is usable again.
DeleteFor the Tabby the Cat bard build, if you select Archaeologist archetype for the bard, you can't take Lingering Performance as the 3rd level feat, because you give up Bardic Performance.
ReplyDeleteThanks, made a note!
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteAccording to the archetype write up, " Archaeologist's luck is treated as bardic performance for the purposes of feats, abilities, effects, and the like that affect bardic performance.", Bardic Performance should be legal.
Deletehttp://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/ultimateCombat/classArchetypes/bard.html
^Supposed to read "Lingering Performance should be legal" my bad.
DeleteThanks for pointing that out, tough call. I would guess that Archaeologist's luck is effected by various feats, but it does not open up feats. In any case, we'll leave it up to the GM. This comments thread should help.
DeleteI am looking at the classic ninja and the shuriken attacks aren't making sense to me. At level 8 there are two normal attacks, two from the flurry, and one from rapid shot, for a total of 5 attacks, but you list six. What am I not taking into account?
ReplyDeleteWe have the 2 from normal BAB progression, two from flurry, one from rapid shot, and one from two-weapon fighting! I think you probably aren't taking two weapon fighting into account here.
DeleteI love this build! Possibly my favorite one here. Rogues and Ninjas need more love anyway.
Unless there is some info I don't know about, these effects do not stack. FoB simply gives you all the 2weapon fighting feats free. In the Zen archer version, it also mentions that rapid shot/many shot does not stack.
DeleteYou are thinking of Flurry of Blows. This is flurry of stars, a ninja ability.
DeleteWell, think I roughly did this right.... https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_PRm9CKIJ3aZzpBnFfCpYKBPpLzOK9j8ye8WOzkcv9I/edit?usp=sharing this is an alchemist who after experimenting with mutagens ends up turning into something large green and bad tempered....
ReplyDeleteGreat! Added, though you should run the numbers on his buffed form in the by level section.
DeleteHi, I was wondering how the "Gatling"
ReplyDeletereloads his Double Barreled Musket in a Full Round while doing 14 Attacks.
rapid reload and lightning reload wont cut it.
Lightning Reload (Ex): At 11th level, as long as the gunslinger has at least 1 grit point, she can reload a single barrel of a one-handed or two-handed firearm as a swift action once per round. If she has the Rapid Reload feat or is using an alchemical cartridge (or both), she can reload a single barrel of the weapon as a free action each round instead. Furthermore, using this deed does not provoke attacks of opportunity.
DeleteI believe that with lightning reload and rapid reload, he can simply take free actions to reload.
Couple things:
ReplyDeleteThe description of the Teddy Rosy fighter build lists it as a two-weapon build instead of a twohanded weapon build.
Blasting Wilder Build is being built here:
http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?336914-Building-the-best-Blasting-Wilder if anyone wants to contribute.
Thanks! Let me know when that build is done, I'll add it in.
Deletecaptain falcon is illegal. using your ki to add an extra attack only allows you to make an extra attack at your highest bonus during a flurry, it does not grant you the extra standard attack actions needed for multiple vital strikes
ReplyDeleteIt is legal. He's using the monk of the four winds ability "slow time", not the standard "spend a ki point to get an attack while ferrying" ability. Slow time gives three standard actions for 6 ki points.
DeleteI think *** EleanorLorkien (EleanorLorkien) Human Sorcerer who dips Oracle to get highly mobile crowd control via illusions points to an out of date website. There is no such build among the builds at this link. Does anyone have a link to the Sorcerer oracle dip build originally referenced? Thx!
ReplyDeleteFixed!
DeleteZenith,
DeleteThanks for putting this site together. I've spent many hours scrolling and skulking about. I don't get to play much any more, but when I get bored I make characters. This is probably my favorite build. I haven't really seen anything like it on the forums or build guides. He's kind of a Defender/ Leader type. Check it out and tell me what you think.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wDt5Kp05blNK3pTS52_ENwjmFrnUrKBZtPp0770_tAw/edit?usp=sharing
Looks good, but can you write out the feat list and give some point buy options at well?
Deletebetter?
Deletehttps://docs.google.com/document/d/1wDt5Kp05blNK3pTS52_ENwjmFrnUrKBZtPp0770_tAw/edit?usp=sharing
Great! Added (though I would love to see it up to 20, or at least 12).
DeleteHey, Zeni! I was wondering what would you make of the Student of War PrC. I can't tell if it's good with the Lore Warden class (Knowledge feats overlap and you can be sadder by just focusing on Str, Int and Con) or if they suck together (low Dex means you are not getting most of Combat Reflexes and Hair's Breadth, the two Know Thy/Your Enemy features cannot be performed simultaneously).
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think? Is the PrC worth its salt?
Hmm - well Mind over Metal could be great if you want a lower dexterity and higher intelligence. Too bad that dexterity still controls so many other areas. Know your enemy is fine, but it does take a move action. Anticipate is alright, but the rest of the abilities are nice.
DeleteBoth Know Thy and Your enemy can be made in a single turn as a full round action, which is kind of entertaining. And you do get two additional skill points per level as a Student of War.
You could do worse with a full BAB PrC. There's nothing outstanding here that would make the character shine, but there is some synergy. If it fits your character concept, then you won't be gimped, and it will certainly allow you to gain benefits from studying your enemy.
Alternatively, you could just stick with Lore Warden and use your first turn to UMD a wand with haste or the like. You'll get a better buff and be ready to go.
Anyway, that's my 5 minutes look at it.
Thanks! Yeah, I'm not sure it's worth it for a Fighter, looks like a better fit for an Emissary Cavalier.
ReplyDeleteI added a glimpse of Level 12 on the Defender Battle Herald and how he could affect a CR 2 character and listed the bonuses he adds at that point.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I'd love to have one of these in my party.
DeleteNow I've just added a sub-section of the Herald's ward being defended against the AM BARBARIAN build at Level 12.
DeleteHow's THAT for a Pathfinder Defender!?
I love your Battle Herald build!!!
Delete.
I used it as the basis for a PFS character I played to level 13 (and have planned to level 20). The main difference is that by level 13 my build only has two levels of Battle Herald. At level 13 he has eight classes*, and is about "aid another," basic spell buffs, multiple sorts of bard song and rage song, and other shenanigans.
.
I wrote Señor Arsenio Josué Busto Durante as a human Chelaxian noble (PFS) in the Liberty's Edge faction, with the racial heritage (Halfling) feat (telling you something about his back story if you follow the PFS campaign world).

* Cavalier (Daring Champion), Swashbuckler (Mouser, Mysterious Avenger), Bard (Arcane Duelist), Cleric (Divine Strategist),
Paladin (Sacred Shield), Battle Herald, Skald (Urban Skald), Investigator (Sleuth), Sorcerer (Eldritch Scrapper)
Great! Look at the model build criteria at the bottom of the post and let me know if you flesh it out to that level.
ReplyDeleteUpdated with that info.
ReplyDeleteGreat, added!
ReplyDeleteThanks! It's a Lashunta, not a Human though! Necessary to qualify for the Qabarat Outrider archetype.
ReplyDeleteGotcha, added.
ReplyDeleteElder Wyrm seams to have closed up shop, all links to that website are now to advertisement.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I've now removed them.
DeleteAny idea if this build was copied somewhere? Really liked it, built a partial character, and now have no reference all all.
DeleteSorry, I don't think so. What was the build? Elder Wyrm had a few.
DeleteSpecifically the Pistolero build, using revolvers.
DeleteShould of clarified, whoops.
Lost to the aether I think, sorry!
DeleteS'all good. would of been nice, but life goes on :)
DeleteThanks, updated!
ReplyDeleteThe four armed freak alchemist link no longer works :(
ReplyDeleteRight you are! Ah well, removed.
DeleteHi, here is a build for a controller type bard. Check it out and see if he can make the list:
ReplyDeletehttps://drive.google.com/file/d/0B60U79Pif7FSbHA4YUx6UE5fczg/view
Looks good! Added!
DeleteCaptain Falcon (and any other multiple size of weapon builds) are illegal.
ReplyDeletehttp://paizo.com/paizo/faq/v5748nruor1fm#v5748eaic9t5u
Oh well, that's a shame. Well, I suppose it is a good ruling.
DeleteI’ve been playing a variant of your Dark Angel Cleric build and loving it. In a climactic fight against seven opponents, she was able to position herself so that she did 150 points of damage with three channels in three rounds at level 3. Insane! I never did more than 9 points at a time to a single target, but she helped make short work of an otherwise suicidal encounter. Roleplaying a powerful character with 7 Intelligence is a blast, too. Thanks for sharing the concept!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's crazy at third level! Nice work. That's where the Dark Angel excels!
DeleteThe cave druid is not valid. The monks flurry of slams do not work in conjunction with natural attacks. "A monk with natural weapons cannot use such weapons as part of a flurry of blows, nor can he make natural attacks in addition to his flurry of blows attacks." This statement alone immediately negates the ooze using his psuedopod to "flurry of slams" and breaks this build....Just wondering if anyone else has looked at it.
ReplyDelete* Vallairs Urn (Ravingdork) Half-Elf Nature Warden Druid, who uses a longbow and a tiger named Alex.
ReplyDeleteLooked at a second druid build, and this link goes to a half-elf drow cave druid with a cave domain. No animal companion. It also uses a sling and club and not a bow. So this link is either broken or it's just not the right description, but nothing unusual with this build. Are there no good druid builds listed here?
This is an Elemental Barbarian that took a few levels of Alchemist to gain a few extra limbs, allowing him to take a load of Weapon and Natural attacks that are boosted by mutagen and rage

Looks interesting! Post it to a forum and link it here, as I'd be curious what other people think.
DeleteI'm kinda new to this, so do you have any forum suggestions?
DeleteI frequent the Paizo forums (http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/paizoPublishing/pathfinder/pathfinderRPG/advice) - make an account, post the link, and prepare for some advice!
DeleteHere is the link

I tweaked it slightly, added skills and a higher Dex variant
I saw your Dissector build and decided to make a similar Alchemist build, the Undying Alchemist. I hope you don't mind that I stole your format (I'm a huge fan). Would you mind taking a look? https://docs.google.com/document/d/1muKnG543QeBphWIruCI6bF5xRKN93ef83ndkyT5R8yc/edit

Whoops, wrong link!

Looks good! A nice and tanky bomb thrower. I'd grab at least one or two bomb discoveries though, and probably up Int. a bit to increase bombs and saves. Don't forget, being a tank means you need to incentivize enemies to attack you - normally by being a threat yourself!
DeleteI updated the build with a higher intelligence and a couple of bomb discoveries. Is it better now?
Delete- Vortexius
I would make to grab at least one bomb debuff by level 5, and a second one by level 10. Tanglefoot and confusion are both good bets. Other than that, looks good!
DeleteI shifted the feats around to compensate. Is the build good/interesting enough to add to the site?
Delete- Vortexius
Sure! What are the bomb debuffs?
DeleteI took your suggestion and added Tanglefoot and Confusion. Thanks for all the input!
Delete- Vortexius
If you don't mind me asking, what do I need to add to the Undying Alchemist for it to meet the criteria for three stars?
ReplyDelete- Vortexius
I basically want to see people impressed on the forum, a good DPR calculation at level 12, and more of an explanation of what the build does and the strategy.
DeleteI added a larger strategy section and a DPR calculation. I'm not sure how to get people's attention on the forums. Tips?
Delete- Vortexius
Not sure - the forums are pretty fickle.
DeleteI posted the build a few days ago, but the only person who responded didn't even read the build (kept asking questions that were answered in the document), they just saw that I mentioned I was using the Ferocious Orc feats and declared that the build was terrible.
Delete- Vortexius
Is getting a discussion going on the forums absolutely necessary? I've had some not-so-great experiences with posting there, and I noticed several of the already existing three star builds don't have discussions and didn't originate on the forums.
Delete- Vortexius
Discussions are the best way to change my mind about a build. If I've rated it 2 stars that means it's a great build, but not necessarily one of the optimal builds for the class. If I see a lot of people on the forums saying that it is, that's likely to change my mind.
DeleteI didn't know the star rating had to do with how optimal the build is, because the model build section doesn't mention it. Sorry I've been bugging you about the rating, I had just been scratching my head about what criteria I wasn't meeting. The Undying Alchemist is nowhere near as optimal as the other Alchemist builds you have, so I agree with your two star rating. Sorry again for my confusion.
Delete- Vortexius
No worries!
DeleteI'm making tripping build for Monk, and I wanted some advice. (Levels 5-8 will be Vivisectionist Alchemist to get Enlarge Person and a couple Discoveries) (Race will be Human)
ReplyDelete1. Should I go with a Strength or Dexterity build? The monk will be using one or two Kamas.
2. I'll definitely be using Weapon Adept, but should I also use the Maneuver Master Archetype?
3. What feats would you recommend I take first? (Other than Improved Trip)
- Vortexius
I might use Half-Elf to get proficiency with Double-Chained Kamas. Or I could just use the Human bonus feat for it. Which race would be better?
Delete- Vortexius
Honestly, I'm not an expert on Monks or tripping builds. Something to consider might be the Brawler though - just an idea, no idea if it would actually be more effective.
DeleteHey Zenith, here's a Mesmerist build: http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2t6hs?Shield-Bash-Vexing-Devil-build-idea#1
ReplyDeleteInteresting! I'd love to see the math on those key levels.
DeleteAlso, I can't seem to reply, but tell Vortexius that hee needs to make a Strength build and avoid Alchemist levels - instead, get the Snowstrider trait.
ReplyDeleteFor your consideration:

ReplyDeleteNot sure if it's legal but a lizardfolk taking multiple weapon focuses for each natural attack and then being a warpriest, at level 7 or so can they do three attacks (Claws+bite) at full bab/str and one secondary (Tail) attack all doing 1d8 points of damage?
ReplyDeleteHey, I'm on the Paizo Forums (with the name MageHunter). My profile is an Inquisitor build and I don't know if it's of any interest, but if you find my profile it should be there. It's an Archer Inquisitor that focuses on readying attacks to disrupt spells.
ReplyDeleteThanks
There is a discussion here, but the threads have recently been busy so people have been elsewhere.

Looks interesting, but see if you can hit a few more of the list:
Delete1: It has a feat advancement list, showing what feats are taken at each level.
Ah, I see. I missed that. I'll check back some time.
DeleteAll the builds that were on one drive are no longer working.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. Want to ask Ravingdork where they wound up?
Deleteit couldn't hurt, but it looks like when they updated the site they dumped old possibly unused files.

These look good! If you want them added, take a look at the model build criteria at the end of the post.
ReplyDeleteZenith, i'm looking for a fun build that has survivabilty that has social skills. I am playing w/ a bunch of noobies.
ReplyDeleteAny recommendations?
Paladin or bard! Paladins have great survivability, decent social skills, and can heal those noobies when they go down. Bard doesn't have great survivability, but is unparalleled in social skills and will make the noobies feel great about themselves (and grateful) with a bit of song.
DeleteI thought about honestly playing your ninja or synth summoner. Which do you think might be better to play w/ a bunch of noobs?
DeleteI would go ninja - Synth summoner is kind of a one trick pony, and is likely to earn you the ire of your party members.
DeleteIf you know what your party is playing, then you can use the round out your party tool here: http://zenithgames.blogspot.com/2013/03/how-to-round-out-your-party.html
I have a barb, rogue, druid, & cleric atm
DeleteThat's a pretty balanced party already. You could use some more ranged, buffing, and blasting. Anything ranged would be good: Ranged bard, alchemist, fighter, gunslinger, zen archer. A ninja would just step on the rogue's toes.
DeleteOr course, play what you want! If you want a tough, charismatic character, then go for it. Parties don't need to be perfectly balanced.
If I take that QZAM build, I don't have to take those vows do I? I was going to make minor tweaks to it, such as going LE instead of LN
DeleteYou don't need to take the vows, but you'll have less Ki. You could also do ranged anti paladin for LE.
DeleteI was also thinking about playing an alchemist. Which of your builds do you like best for what I am looking for?
DeleteCheck out the mortar: http://zenithgames.blogspot.com/2015/12/mortar-alchemist-build.html
DeleteWhat skills do you take w/ this build?
DeleteAlso, what would you recommend for a ranged anti paladin?
Take skills that your party members don't. For the ranged anti-paladin, take a look at some of the guides to anti paladins in the guide to the guides.
DeleteI've only seen the 1 Anti-Paladin build. Are there any others?
ReplyDeleteNot sure about builds, but check out the guides: http://zenithgames.blogspot.com/2012/11/the-comprehensive-pathfinder-guides.html
DeleteI want to play an Inquisitor. I like the guide that Nerdy posted. I will have to make some tweaks to it for our campaign. Are there any specific domains you especially like? Or any archetypes for that matter?
DeleteThx again Z!
Travel is always good. Beyond that, I'd trust the guides!
DeleteBoth tankster barbarian are invalid. You can't take rage power increased DR because the archetype trades away the damage reduction with the invulnerability class feature.
ReplyDeletewhy are there no hunter builds!?!? :(
ReplyDeleteNo one has shown be any yet!
DeleteHunter build? I haven't written it up and submitted it, but here's a Brawler Wild Child (that's basically a hunter, right) build out to level 12: http://www.unseelie.org/assorted-rpg/Kerstan/Kerstan%20Plan.pdf
Delete.
The general idea is this: Animal Companion Roc with muleback cords (so it can carry at least half the party in a gondola, while flying). Martial flexibility for getting whatever feat or hunter's trick is useful at the time. The three Paladin levels are Holy Tactician archetype, so that he can share *teamwork*feats* with the whole party (getting whatever teamwork feat seems useful with martial flexibility).
.
Here are my cheat sheets for playing the character, which will give you some idea of versatility:

Here's a guy for you (only built out in full to level 12, though I've got feats and general instructions for 13-20): http://www.unseelie.org/assorted-rpg/Kaikura/Kaikura.html
ReplyDeleteHere's an Arcane Savant / Sorcerer (False Priest) blaster buil, out to level 20 with, I think, all of your requirements. The build is PFS legal, and has been played actively from level 1 to level 14: http://www.unseelie.org/assorted-rpg/Tesla/TeslaSorcererFalsePriestArcaneSavant.html
ReplyDeleteThese are great! Take a look at the bottom of the post for how they should be formatted to make it onto the list.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little confused re the Tesla build:
Delete.
"1: It has a feat advancement list, showing what feats are taken at each level." Not only are feats listed for each level, but all spells are listed out to 14, skill choices are listed level-by-level, and favored class bonuses are listed level-by-level.
"2: It has a short paragraph or two explaining what the build does, and why it chose what it did." Are the paragraphs written too long?
"3: It is either a good build, or it is an interesting build. This should be explained in your paragraph. It would be helpful to make a forum post to see if others find it interesting. If others talk about it, that's a good sign." Is this not the forum you mean by 'make a forum post?'"
"4: It has items that the player should buy." It does, level by level, up to level 12. Do you need more listed past level 12? I thought that would be sufficient to show what items to upgrade.
"5: It shows what the build looks like at a handful of important levels, such as 1, 4, 8, 12, 16, and 20, or 5, 10, 15, and 20." That's in the page I referenced.
"6: It is be well-written, and well organized." Have you got suggestions for better organization?
"7: It is built out to level 20." Done, except for blow-by-blow spell choices past level 14, or item upgrade or scroll-purchase choices past level 12.
Ah, Tesla looks great. Added!
DeleteHere's a full caster "magus" (with only 1 level of magus, 10 levels of eldrutch knight, and 9 levels of orc-blooded sorcerer).
ReplyDelete.

Added - For future builds, first post them to the Paizo messageboards or similar and get some feedback (and give me the link) so I can better judge what's going on.
DeleteAh, I understand. Thanks!
DeleteI was just revising the Vacuum, it sadly has several errors on it.
ReplyDelete1st - It is using the increases on Caster Level to increase the DC of it's Perfected Spell. The DC for Mass Suffocation should be 40 (way less impressive), it is also using an Inteligence Score of 40, but it is assuming that Tiefling gives you +4 Int on racial score, when it gives you just +2.
The build is definetivelly good, but it needs some changing. Probably remove some feats to get Ambuscading Spell to increase DC by 4, and Focused Spell to get another +4, and change the Eldritch Heritage to Arcane, so you can get another +2 to the DC, getting an incredible DC of 49 (considering Inteligence 38 instead of 40).

ReplyDeletehttps://docs.google.com/document/d/1ekGXbYnEyZvvlNrFSEvAsiHBye0-wfI2hw-ST1n4BJ0/edit?usp=sharing
I love the build. There are a few non-important glitches:
DeletePower Attack cannot be taken at 1 because of the needed BAB of +1; it is trivial to swap a with the level 3 feat
The Sanctified Slayer archetype relinquishes all instances of judgement as well as the slayer ability; but these do not appear important to the build
Is there a way to add guides to the list? Have a whole bunch of builds for psionics and clerics.
ReplyDeleteYup! Post them on a forum or on reddit. If they get traction, then just link them in the comments here and I'll post them if they fit.

Can you summarize what this build does or what makes it special?
DeleteI was looking at your Sanctified Slayer build. I found one question/issue: how do you get Shatter Defense at level 7 when an inquisitor has a BAB of 5 at this level? This feat requires a BAB of 6. I kept trying to figure it out and couldn't.
ReplyDeleteMy spouse and I absolutely love your blog and find almost all of your post's to be precisely what I'm looking for. Do you offer guest writers to write content in your case? ReplyDeleteWhile I'm not entirely sure if it's the same build, but if you go to his profile on Paizo and scroll down a bit, you can find A invulnerable build. May not be the same, but it's the best you can find.
